Law professors and political scholars analyzed the impact of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The 5-4 ruling from January 2010 eliminated restrictions on campaign spending by outside groups. Congressional Democrats tried to pass a bill in response that would have required greater disclosure for campaign spending, but the measure failed to pass the Senate. close
