Gary Schmitt talked about his October 6, 2010, opinion piece, “The Demilitarization of Europe,” and he responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. In the piece he argued that most of NATO’s 28 alliance members are failing to live up to their promised defense spending target of at least two percent of gross domestic product, and the ramifications of this situation. Other discussion topics in the program were the latest developments from the NATO summit the recent weekend, NATO’s role in the war in Afghanistan, and Obama administration national defense policies.
