Treasury and State Department officials testified about the effectiveness of U.S. and United Nations sanctions on Iran. Among the topics they addressed were China’s possible involvement in assisting the Iranian nuclear program, and the release of confidential diplomatic cables by Wilikeaks.

The Obama administration had expanded sanctions in an effort to slow Iran’s nuclear program. The hearing came a week before diplomats from Iran, the U.S., China and several European nations meet in Geneva to discuss the Iranian nuclear program.  close
