Lord John Wakeham compared and contrasted the British parliamentary system with the U.S. government. Clips were shown from his 1988 interview with C-SPAN conducted just after the House of Commons approved television coverage. He also talked about the 1984 IRA bombing of the Conservative Party meeting in Brighton designed to kill Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her government. Mrs. Thatcher was not injured. Five others, including Lord Wakeham’s wife, were killed. Lord Wakeham was seriously injured.

Lord John Wakeham has been a member of the House of Lords since 1992 and of the House of Commons from 1974 to 1992. He was Leader of the House of Commons from 1988 to 1989 and Leader of the House of Lords from 1992 to 1994. close
