White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers talked about the U.S. economy. He said he expected low consumer demand to continue for several years, and he recommended greater emphasis on exports, more stimulus spending, and more infrastructure programs as a way to stimulate the economy in the near term. He also said that in the long-term the U.S. should focus on education, innovation, and deficit reduction for the U.S. to retain its leadership position in the world economy. He responded to questions from the audience. close
