President Obama made a statement about the nuclear power plant accident in Japan. He said that the U.S. called on citizens with a 50-mile radius of the plant to evacuate. He also said that that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other experts did not expect harmful levels of radiation to reach the the U.S. West coast, Hawaii, Alaska, or any Pacific U.S. territories. He further stated that he had requested a NRC review of the safety of domestic nuclear plants. close
