Former Secretary of State George Shultz talked about his service in the Nixon administration as secretary of the Department of Labor (1969-70), director of the Office of Management and Budget (1970-72), and secretary of the Department of the Treasury (1972-74). He recalled his work in the administration, including his philosophy and strategies on labor and economic issues. He also detailed his behind-the-scenes efforts on behalf of school desegregation.

This oral history interview was conducted by Timothy Naftali on May 10, 2007, at the Hoover Institution in Stanford, Calif., for the Nixon Presidential Materials Staff at the National Archives and Records Administration, soon to be part of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.  close
