Robert Mueller testified at an oversight hearing on law enforcement operations and practices at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The hearing was expected to be his his last oversight hearing before his retirement. The director took his position on September 4, 2001, just a week before terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. Senators asked him about issues that stemmed from those attacks, including the FBI’s policies regarding reading terror suspects their Miranda rights and the re-authorization of the USA PATRIOT Act. close
