Senate Democrats spoke to reporters about the House Republican budget. Majority Leader Reid said that the victory by the Democratic candidate in New York’s 26th Congressional District special election shows that Americans have rejected the House Republican budget proposal that would make significant changes to the Medicare program. He also said the Senate could vote as early as that night on that budget, and expressed confidence that the Senate would pass an extension of expiring PATRIOT Act provisions before the end of the week. Senators Patty Murray and Kristen Gillibrand also spoke at the briefing. close
