Prime Minister Julia Gillard answered questions from members of her party and the opposition on a number of issues. Members questions were focused on the government’s plan for a carbon tax aimed to cut greenhouse gas emission, and on a recent deal between Australia and Malaysia concerning asylum seekers. Under the agreement, Australia will send 800 asylum-seekers to Malaysia as they arrive in Australian waters and are picked up by Coast Guard and Navy, in exchange for 4,000 refugees who have already been processed in Malaysia. close
