House Ways and Means Committee Chair Dave Camp (R-MI) said a short-term extension in the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling was “not a good idea,” but noted a short-term hike might be necessary in order to allow the White House and Congress time to reach deficit-cutting deal. He also said he was hopeful that Congress would overhaul the U.S. tax code before the 2012 elections. close
