Witnesses testified about establishing national standards for mortgage loan servicers. Mortgage servicers increasingly had come under fire from federal and state officials who accused them of cutting corners and shoddy practices when processing foreclosure paperwork. Among the issues they addressed were the role of community banks in mortgage lending, inconsistencies between different state laws, and examples of mortgage servicing abuses.

Law Professor Peter Swire took part in the hearing by Skype. close
