Panelists talked about the effects of social media on court cases. They talked through a hypothetical case and moved through a series of motions considering the different perspectives of the prosecutor, defense, journalist, judge, juror and public information officer. Some of these motions included demanding potential jurors provide their Facebook pages during the jury selection process, closing the entire voir dire process to the press, and cameras in the courtroom. Afterward, First Amendment Attorney Floyd Abrams talked about some of the previous panel’s concepts, the changing face of who is a journalist and the role of the blogger, and recent high profile trials and cameras in the court. He said that bloggers will be the next generation of First Amendment defenders. close
