A panel of three history professors from University of Central Arkansas presented at a symposium entitled Civil War Battles: The Dishonorable Men Who Fought Them and the Weapons They Used. The seminar featured an exploration of Civil War soldiers, its innovative weaponry, and one of its lesser-known battlefield frontiers. Dr. Lorien Foote examined affairs of honor among soldiers and the pervasive violence that structured their lives. Dr. Roger Pauly considered the new technologies that changed the experience of war for the men who fought. Dr. Buck Foster explored the many battles and faces of Fort Smith, a city that changed hands multiple times during the war and experienced a constant influx of soldiers, refugees, runaways, and deserters. close
