House Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security Subcommittees held a joint hearing on U.S. policy toward Mexican and Central American criminal organizations. The hearing focused on the Merida Initiate, originally a Bush administration policy still enforced by President Obama, that provided counter-drug assistance and equipment to Mexico, Central America, and parts of the Caribbean to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in the region. close
