Robert Mann talked about his book Daisy Petals and Mushroom Clouds: LBJ, Barry Goldwater, and the Ad that Changed American Politics. The 1964 ad for the presidential election campaign of Lyndon Johnson featuring a little girl plucking a daisy followed by images of nuclear destruction that became known as “The Daisy Girl Ad” was shown. It is often cited as one of the most important campaign commercials ever created. Other ads were shown in the background as Robert Mann talked about the 1964 election and the role of advertisement.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 27-December 2 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
