Jay Carney led the daily White House briefing. Questions focused on the House vote to reject the Senate’s legislation on extending the Social Security payroll tax cuts and unemployment benefits. President Obama interrupted the briefing to speak about the House actions. He urged members of the House to allow a vote on the Senate bill, saying, “Let’s not play brinksmanship. The American people are weary of it.”
