He tackled questions on increased transportation costs and the legality of a possible referendum for Scottish independence. The British government argues that it would be illegal for the Scottish government to hold a referendum without prior United Kingdom Parliament approval, but Scottish ministers have pledged to hold a referendum in the fall of 2014. close
