Charles Murray argued that white America’s classes have diverged in a way different than ever seen before. Utilizing census records from 1960 to 2000, Mr. Murray examined the growth of the class divide, the demise of a shared civic culture, and the development of separate cultural understandings for the upper and lower classes. He argued that the growth of this inequality would spell the end of the “American project” and discussed the the probability of that happening. Mr. Murray also responded to questions from members of the audience.
“Alternative Futures for a Fractured American Culture” was a monthly Bradley Lecture at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. close
