Kendall Gott talked about the Civil War Battle of Fort Donelson. This was the first major Union victory of the war, which opened up much of Kentucky and Tennessee to Union control. General Grant gained popular acclaim from the battle and the nickname “Unconditional Surrender” Grant, and he soon received a promotion to major general. In this talk Mr. Gott focused on the importance of the battle. He responded to questions from members of the audience.

Mr. Gott is the author of Where the South Lost the War: An Analysis of the Fort Henry-Fort Donelson Campaign, February 1862.

This event at the Fort Donelson National Battlefield Visitor Center was part of the February 2012 sesquicentennial commemoration of the battle there. close
