Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) talked about the fiscal year 2013 budget, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. He also discussed cuts to the military budget, the 2010 financial regulations law he co-sponsored with former Democratic Senator Chris Dodd, and his retirement from Congress at the end of his term. In his comments he argued that voters do in fact have great influence over legislators, citing the public’s role in stopping two recent anti-online piracy bills, the Protect IP Act (PIPA) and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Regarding problems with the overall budget process, Representative Frank pinpointed voter ambivalence, saying the public “wants a certain level of government activity, but it wants to provide a level of revenue that' not enough for that activity.”

C-SPAN Radio’s Nancy Calo read news headlines at the end of the program. close
