Rodney King talked about his childhood as well as his life in the days and years following the video recording of his beating by the Los Angeles police on March 3, 1991. Mr. King recalled the riots in Los Angeles following the acquittal of four officers in the case and reported on his own legal problems and alcohol addiction. Some slides were shown as Rodney King was interviewed by Mr. Muhammad. He also responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was part of the new “Word Rapport” series at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City. close
