Investigative journalist Andrew Gumbel reports on the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. The attack, executed by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, killed 168 people. The author contends that the bombing was preventable and that the FBI mishandled the case, deaf to the radical right’s dialog in the lead-up to the act. Mr. Gumbel’s research, with the assistance of his co-author, Roger Charles, includes the use of government documents, a correspondence with Terry Nichols, and over 150 interviews with individuals ranging from the prosecution and defense teams to members of the radical right and law enforcement officials. Andrew Gumbel responded to questions from members of the audience at Full Circle Bookstore in Oklahoma City. close
