Social Security trustees testified on their board’s 2012 annual report. They said Congress needed to pass legislation shoring up trust fund finances sometime in the next five years. The report said current revenues were enough to fully fund the program through 2033, with a 25 percent cut in benefits after that if revenues were not increased. The disability benefits portion of Social Security would start running a deficit in 2016. close
