Inez Tenenbaum marked the fourth anniversary of bipartisan product safety legislation, which she said has led to an 80 percent decline in toy recalls due to lead violations. The Consumer Product Safety Commission had made news in recent days over a decision to sue two companies who had refused to stop making and selling small powerful magnets called Buckyballs. The toy was linked to injuries in children who had accidentally swallowed them. The agency had sued just one other company in the past 11 years. close
