President George H.W. Bush held a news conference where he said that the economy was “poised for recovery.” He cited a declining unemployment rate, low interest rates, and low inflation as reasons why the economy was not as bad as the public perceives. He also condemned the violence and detention camps in the former Yugoslavia and Bosnia, saying that the U.S. was taking “complex and strong steps” to resolve the conflict in that country. President Bush also condemned Iraq’s latest refusal to comply with the United Nations and hinted at the use of force. He answered reporters' questions about these issues and other subjects such as the Russian Aid Bill. close
