Author Deanne Stillman talked about her book, Desert Reckoning: A Town Sheriff, a Mojave Hermit, and the Biggest Manhunt in Modern California History. The book examines the case of Donald Kueck who shot deputy sheriff Stephen Sorenson in the Antelope Valley, a desert region north of Los Angeles. Ms. Stillman examined the changing landscape of the high Mojave Desert, which encompasses half of Los Angeles County and according to the author, had been a popular destination for individuals seeking to withdraw from the rest of society. She answered questions from members of the audience. close
