Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate and Red Cross Senior Vice President Charley Shimanski conducted a conference call with the press regarding recovery efforts, and food and shelter assistance after Hurricane Sandy. Officials provided an update to reporters and stated that more than 200,000 applications had been received for housing assistance. Topics included criteria for getting assistance, transitional housing funds, and the impact of the storm on the “uninsured". Secretary Donovan shared some personal stories from his "sobering” trip to New York City over the weekend.
