Colorado Mesa University professor Timothy Winegard talks about the history of Native Americans and their involvement in American and Canadian wars. This event took place at the History Colorado Center in Denver. He argues that american Indians participated in World War I as an extension of the population’s ongoing efforts to shape social and political realities, resist cultural assimilation and segregation, and attain equality through service and sacrifice. Seventeen thousand American Indians were registered for service by war’s end. close
