He said he originally ran for the House with the opinion that federal budget deficits were caused by too much federal spending. Based on his first-term experience in Congress, however, he concluded that budget deficits were a combination of too much spending and insufficient revenue. He said he supports President Obama as the commander in chief, but he was disappointed that he did not seek budget cuts in addition to tax increases in the legislation passed to avert the “fiscal cliff.” He also discussed raising the debt ceiling.
