Patrick Donahoe announced that as a cost-cutting measure, the U.S. Postal Service would cease mail delivery on Saturdays beginning the week of August 5, 2013. Packages would continue to be delivered on Saturdays. He explained the financial situation of the Postal Service and the necessity of this projected $2 billion a year savings. Questions from reporters at the Postal Service headquarters in Washington, D.C., concentrated on the expected reaction in Congress and from unions and customers, and how the Postal Service would find additional savings. close
