Marguerite Holloway talked about her book, The Measure of Manhattan: The Tumultuous Career and Surprising Legacy of John Randel Jr. Cartographer, Surveyor, Inventor, in which she recounts the life of surveyor John Randel Jr., who created the city grid for Manhattan. Commissioned to survey the island in 1808, Randel utilized tools that he had invented to plot the unwieldy terrain that titled eastward and was spotted with rocks and marsh lands. Marguerite Holloway spoke and answered questions at the Museum of the City of New York in New York City. close
