Stephen Budiansky talked about his book, Blackett’s War: The Men Who Defeated the Nazi U-Boats and Brought Science to the Art of Warfare, in which he recounts the use of scientific and mathematical research to aid in the direction of Allied forces in World War II. In his book, the author profiles Patrick Blackett, a future Nobel Prize-winner, who with his colleagues, applied probability theory and other mathematical formulas to overhaul military strategy and led to the determent of German submarine attacks that had plagued Allied forces. He spoke at R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, Connecticut. close
