Alan Kania talked about his book, John Otto: Trials and Trails, in which he explores the life of John Otto, the first park custodian of the Colorado National Monument. He characterized Mr. Otto as an eccentric man who arrived in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1906, explored the neighboring canyons and plateaus, built trails, and promoted that the area be protected. Mr. Kania said Otto was “a very strange character” who was locked up three times on insanity charges. This program was recorded at Denver’s History Colorado Center. close
