Kevin Baker spoke with four descendants of garment workers employed at New York City’s Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. They talked about the March 25, 1911 factory fire and about efforts to memorialize the victims. The fire took the lives of 146 garment workers, most of them young immigrant women, and led to many changes in New York’s labor laws and building regulations. This event was co-hosted by New York’s Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition. close
