Srdja Popovic discussed the role new media has played in political revolutions. Among the topics he addressed were recent revolutions in Africa and the Middle East, new media technologies as a tool for non-violent movements, and the effectiveness of violent versus non-violent resistance.
Mr. Popovi was one of the founders and key organizers of the Serbian nonviolent resistance group Otpor! Its campaign to unseat Serbian president Slobodan Milosovic found success in October 2000 when hundreds of thousands of protesters converged upon and took over the Serbian Parliament, effectively ending Milosevic’s rule. close
