Asa Hutchinson outlined the findings of the National School Shield Initiative (NSSI) task force report on increasing school safety. NSSI was commissioned by the National Rifle Association (NRA). One of the recommendations was that school teachers be allowed to carry firearms if they receive proper training. In his comments Mr. Hutchinson said NSSI, working independently of the NRA, did not consider the potential impact of expanding background checks or banning high-capacity ammunition magazines. close
