Three academics discussed the evolution of U. S. immigration policy. Each professor focused on a specific era, analyzing various laws and how each changed or shaped the American immigration landscape, from pre-civil war, post-civil war and up to current time. After their presentations, they answered questions from audience members.

This American Historical Association event was aimed at giving congressional staffers, members, and the public an historical perspective as Congress was working on legislation to reform the immigration system. close
