President Obama spoke about “common-sense” gun control reforms following the defeat of a series of amendment votes in the Senate, including the Manchin-Toomey Amendment expanding background checks. In his remarks he said that it was a “shameful” day in Washington and strongly criticized the gun lobby for “willfully lying” about its position on the bipartisan legislation. He was joined by former Representative Gabriel Giffords and other victims of gun violence. close
