South Carolina 1st Congressional District candidates Elizabeth Colbert Busch (D) and former Governor Mark Sanford (R) debated various issues, including taxes and federal spending, immigration, gun legislation, debt and deficit, and foreign policy. 

Candidates often leveled personal charges with Elizabeth Colbert Busch calling Former Governor Sanford as a hypocrite for advocating lower spending when he used taxpayer dollars to fly to Argentina to visit his mistress. Governor Sanford called Colbert Busch a tool of Nancy Pelosi and labor unions who would not advocate for the conservative-leaning 1st District. close
