Harold Holzer spoke about Civil War artifacts featured in his book, The Civil War in 50 Objects, which were drawn from the New York Historical Society’s collection. Objects in the collection included Confederate flags, Ulysses S. Grant’s handwritten terms of surrender at Appomattox, and framed leaves from Abraham Lincoln’s funeral bier. Slides were shown of some of the items. Mr. Holzer was interviewed by Professor Eric Foner, who wrote the introduction for the book. They both responded to questions from members of the audience.
The presentation, “The Civil War in 50 Objects,” was part of the series “The Civil War: 150 Years,” a program of the New York Historical Society Bernard and Irene Schwartz Distinguished Speakers Series. close
