New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) announced his appointment of New Jersey State Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa (R) to temporarily fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Lautenberg (D). Mr. Chiesa said he intended to represent the people of New Jersey on topics such as immigration reform, but that he was not interested in running in the special election for the seat. Governor Christie scheduled the special election for October 16, 2014. close
