Prior to the G-8 summit in Northern Ireland, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed the British Parliament, the first time a Canadian prime minister had addressed the British Parliament since Prime Minister William Mackenzie King in 1944. During his address, Prime Minister Harper spoke about the common values of both Great Britain and Canada.
