Members of the Republican Study Committee reacted to the Supreme Court rulings that day on same-sex marriage. The court invalidated a provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act that denied benefits to legally married gay couples. Also, the Supreme Court cleared the way to resume same-sex marriages in California. Many called the rulings bad decisions that infringed on religious freedoms and attacked constitutional rights. It was also argued that there would be a negative effects for children, who are best raised by a woman and man together. The representatives did not take questions. close
