Historian William Seale talked about the C-SPAN series “First Ladies: Influence and Image,” for which he served as an adviser. He discussed the first half of the series which covered the lives of first ladies from Martha Washington to Ida McKinley. He offered commentary on many of the vignettes featured throughout the programs, clips of which were shown, as well as video clips of Clarence Lusane and Richard Norton Smith. The author of books such as The President’s House, he is the editor of White House History, a journal of the White House Historical Association, which is the co-sponsor of the series. Mr. Seale talked about the mission of the WHHA, and ventured an opinion on which first lady he would like to have dinner with. close
