Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions at the daily White House briefing. He said the White House supports Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s position on the Senate filibuster rules deal, but would not comment further until an official agreement had been announced. Other topics included the political situation in Egypt, former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden, racial relations following the verdict in George Zimmerman’s trial for the death of Trayvon Martin, immigration reform, and intelligence surveillance.
