Professor Theda Skocpol, a former president of the American Political Science Association, spoke to students at the University of Tulsa about the politics of climate change. She presented highlights from her January 2013 report, Naming the Problem: What It Will Take to Counter Extremism and Engage Americans in the Fight Against Global Warming, about why the Obama administration was able to get a health care bill passed but not environmental legislation. She also spoke about the media’s effect on public opinion about climate science. She used slides during her presentation and responded to questions from members of the audience. This lecture, title “Naming the Problem: Extremism and the Fight Against Climate Change,” was given at The University of Tulsa’s Allen Chapman Activity Center. close
