Jeffrey McClurken talked about his book, Take Care of the Living: Reconstructing Confederate Veteran Families in Virginia, in which discusses the Civil war and the difficulties families faced once their loved ones returned. He spoke about the consequences of the war for over three thousand Confederate soldiers and their families in Virginia. Some were institutionalized whiles others were amputees from the war making work difficult and survival a challenge.
