The subcommittee heard testimony about the electoral college and its relationship with presidential elections. Both committee members and witnesses offered ideas for changes in the electoral system. They also explored how the electoral college works and how the President of the United States is chosen. The hearing was inspired by Ross Perot’s independent presidential bid which some Congressmen said underlined major flaws in the presidential election system. close
