Museum Director Scott Harris toured the James Monroe Museum and Library and talked about Monroe’s life from his time as a student at William and Mary, to his role as Secretary of War during the War of 1812, and his time as President of the United States. Among the items he displayed was the desk where Monroe penned the Monroe Doctrine, which addressed America’s stance on European colonization of North and South America during the early 19th century.
